Good to know: Electrical appliances often require a significant amount of extra energy when they start up. This “peak” in power at startup, also called “inrush current” or “starting current,” can be up to three times higher than the appliance’s normal power rating.
Let’s take the example of a refrigerator: its normal operation may require about 600 watts, but at the moment it starts up, it may briefly require up to three times that amount of energy, or 1800 watts.
